There exists an enigma. Fundamentalists often are against government social programs such as welfare because, in their eyes, they promote a lack of self-accountability. Apparently, they believe in self-sufficiency and personal accountability - both admirable qualities. Why is it then, that when there is a catastrophe or are other crisis, fundamentalists seem to be the first to make the claim that they have handed over the problem to God and He will make things right? Where is the personal accountability, then?
