The notion of "god" sacrificing himself to himself (a pointless gesture in itself) in order to prevent himself from sending us all to hell for committing sins as a result of the way in which he created us and which he was fully aware we were going to commit anyway, is the definition of meaningless. A symbolic and dramatic performance maximized for guilt potential.
