We find it an amusing reflection of the limitations of human imagination that the Gods man creates are recognizably in his own image; we can only suppose that the dolphin God is a wonderful swimmer, the elephant God has a large trunk, and the alien God of the planet Hypothetica is methane based with a just a soupçon of vermouth and a dollop of hydrochloric acid. Our own preferred view is that this universe is an early but rather uninspiring and forgotten experiment–-God has tired of creatures of carbon, and methane, but finds the vermouth intriguing, and has, quite sensibly, moved on to more interesting challenges.
