Overcome by the mystery of origin, the drama of complexity, we are inclined to say it all started with God. It’s only a verbal trick, of course, a signal to stop asking questions for which there are not now--and may never be–-answers. Once "mystery" is renamed "God," it is easier to gain comfort by making it just a smarter and more powerful version of ourselves.
