Christmas is a birthday celebration. Birthdays are not celebrated for more than one day. If you claim the entire month as a Christmas season, then you are stepping on all the other celebrations of different religions–and Atheists, too–during that time.
So, if you truly want to respect all people–as you should–“Happy Holidays” is the correct response. If not, you are a selfish hypocrite.
