God and the organized belief in "him" that we call religion was originally invented for two reasons. When early cave men noticed that other guys like their leader "Ogg" one day fell down and did not get up again and then started smelling funny and rotted, they knew that was not a cool thing that they wanted to happen to them. They also (when they evolved enough intellegence) began to be totally perplexed by how they came to be in the first place. So they thought it would be best to invent a story about where they came from and how they really don't have to die at all no matter how it seemed. In these stories, they simply went to a better place after death and lived happily ever after. Belief in an all-powerful being as creator is the product of very primitive and unsophisticated minds. The fact some still believe it today is embarrassingly preposterous.
