I was born and raised, (and yes still live) in a very Christian home. I am 23, and have been an athiest since 19. It's not been easy, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. Becoming an athiest pushed me out of my stand-still, to expand and grow past the only thing I had ever known.
I left "the faith" before I actually quit believing in it. Now if that isn't hate! Fear of eternal fire couldn't keep me in that twisted religion, worshiping "a god" who could let all kinds of horrible things happen. Not for no reason, not because he couldn't stop it, but to glorify himself! I told God goodbye.
I now would perhaps call myself an "athiest evangelist." And I encourage other athiests to do the same. Let us not stop til every last slave is set free. Remember, some of those slaves are our friends and family. It's time to stand up against the church, the bible , (and God if you still believe in him,) and say "LET MY PEOPLE GO!" -Ms
I too have been happier as a non-believer. But beside that, even if I wasn't would not be the point. People don't seem to get that you can't just choose to believe it or not. And even if I could make myself, why on earth would I want to?? I sometimes wonder what mental state most Christians, and I was in to ever go along with such immorality, even at the prize of avoiding hell.

The fact that a believer is happier than a skeptic is no more to the point than the fact that a drunken man is happier than a sober one
