Adrian Branch "I guess your point is that heaven has a city of gold, like the Wizard of Oz has a yellow brick road."
Adrian Branch It's ironic how the story of Jesus recalls him as being the son of a God, or a half-man, half-god .That story is also similar to that of Hercules, who is also half-man, half-god, and son of the Greek God Zeus. Both are sons of mythology with fathers who planted their seeds to sprout up with Jack and his magical beanstock.
Unknown let the iconoclast blast dogmas of the past so that they do not holdfast or last and let posterity ask and discover. so if we all can, woman , child, man. join hands, don't formulate plan nor particular clan, just us, just human. man created god not vise versa as for the old testament, flawed, fabled, fabricated, fallacious, farcical, ficticious. falsehoods fraught with folly and fantasy.

NoGods4Me You can talk about pink unicorns and still not believe that they exist. The same goes for god(s) and other fairy tales.
Adrian Branch I have read the whole book of Esther and the entire bible. Plus, I've read the Koran and the Gnostic bible as well. Maybe you should study more books other than the unholy bible if you want to learn about the history of your unproven religious beliefs. How many books have you read today?
Arjahn Religious people act the same as Toddlers, they pretend that their imaginary friends are helping them fight other people's imaginary friends, they can't share, whine a lot and don't do anything about it besides playing with their imaginary friends some more. When this happens to an actual toddler, a parent typically has to intervene as a reasonable parent should, in the religious scenario I believe that us Atheists need to be the parents and tell these children to stop ruining our lives with their imaginary friends.

You only need god(s) if you only need god(s).

I need more than fairy tales.
Devout Atheist People will believe what they want to believe, or whatever makes them feel good inside... And that's just HUMAN NATURE. When you become a skeptic and accept yourself, you feel free and... I'm not sure how to say it, but it's just nice knowing you know why you're doing something... ask questions... Accept law that is beneficial to society, (random)- if everyone broke the laws then there would be chaos. Humans naturally fear chaos. God is the mental equalizer. I believe in proven justified authority, and laws that will help us as a species. I feel dumb for spending so much time thinking about religion... I wish it had never been regarded as true, we aren't even trying to go anywhere, first we need to pass zero to move in the positive direction (number line). Religion and fear has proven to be a major flaw in human personality.
Alexz Ironically atheist and christains get there convictions from the same book.

Unknown if God is al knowing as relusionists claim he is>>then he should have known the devil will turn against him and if he loves us so much, he'll put an end to the devil rather than putting us through the trouble of resisting temptation

Baron von Knifty Celebrate Christmas the old-fashioned way: witch burning, heretic hangings, Inquisition murder, holy wars and crusades.

Religion is the thief of time. (With apologies to Edward Young)
NoGods4Me Theists like to say that atheists "believe in nothing". In fact, it is theists who believe in 'nothing'...for they believe in things that don't exist, such as 'god(s).'
Unknown Religion is like a penis: it is ok to have one, it is ok to be proud of it but don't whip it out in public and don't shove it down peoples throats....especially Children.

Ian T Religion is a tragicomedy; the beliefs are funny, believing them is sad.
Captain It takes a brave soul to stare at the worlds truths, it's horror, it's brutality.
It takes an honest soul to see what life is in an unbridled state, to see life's harshness.
It takes a strong soul swallow & accept the morbid reality that life & man can conjure, to cherish the good & work through the bad of life & not mask discomfort with some whimsical notion of a "plan" at the hands of a fictitious father figure.
It takes an Atheist.

We must always bear in mind that we are never finished evolving. Our bodies and minds will forever change to suit our lifestyle and environment.

As examples, we humans still retain our baser hunting and killing instincts.... but for how much longer?

Some experts on physiology and psychology are even now predicting drastic changes in our brain patterns due to imbalance of the brain's usage. They are forecasting a wider catchment in the areas of memory loss (amnesia) and brain malfunction (Alzheimer's) and the earlier onset of osteoporosis due to our growing reliance on and dedication to, computers.

Maybe this should be a warning to us to get out more.
Verify I refuse to believe in a god that I'm told, "loves me" but is willing to send me to hell; where i will live, suffer, burn, choke, scream and cry forever if I decide not to follow his 10 rules.
Jar of hearts When the tribal leadership adopted a new god the tribe followed suit. Not to have done so would have been tantamount to rebellion. When Charlemagne insisted on baptism and become a christian and as the sign of submission, he punished with appalling barbarity any resistance, as when, in cold blood, he beheaded, in a single day, 4,500 Saxons at Verden, in 782 CE. This is a glaring truth about religion, it is tyranny to its fullest.

DAVE DUCHENE buddhism is the only modern religion i can really respect because buddhism is technically not even a religion because there is no worship of a deity or praying it doesnt care about race or gender or orientation there is no heaven or hell there is no invisible man in the sky watching everything you do every minute of evry day with a special list of 10 things he does not want you to do and if you do any of those things hes got a special place for you where you scream and choke and burn and yell and get tortured and thrown into a lake of fire and die for the rest of time...no buddhism is nothing like that its actually technically not even a religion its an idea at acknowledges the possiblities of other realms and such but it also acknowledges science it encourages you to go out there and get shit done for yourself test things for your self experience feel and live for yourself not even assuming right off the bat that what buddha himself tells you is true its about taking all those experiences and feelings for what they are and making a hypothesis that fits YOU so that YOU may acheive peace with out the help of any deities which people have been doing for far longer than christianity has been around and there for disproving christianity before it even began

Dr. Idel Dreimer, www.lumpenbangenpiano.com Surely religion must be the first and most striking example of what we now call the Stockholm Syndrome. Though held captive in a universe that is best characterized as profoundly indifferent--or easily seen as manifestly unfair, and demonstrably cruel, millions are infused with a spirit of gratitude and adoration; nor yet do they stint in their praise of the creator whom they imagine to be responsible for their fate.

God would have had to be either a rapist who craftily drugged his victims or a tosser who provided his own sperm and got the virgin Mary pregnant using a turkey baster while she was sleeping. How else does one explain Mary getting pregnant with his child and her not knowing anything about the inception.
Robbo The Bible explains that god sent satan to earth (he was kicked out of heaven with a third of the angels). What kind of supreme, loving being drops a satan in the midst of his creation. We know that the universe is huge, millions of light years across, couldn't the supreme, loving being have found an isolated part of the universe for someone he wanted out of heaven. Man, if he couldn't handle him , how are we supposed to? How can anyone think there is a loving supreme being?

We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns -- the ones we don't know we don't know." Donald Rumsfeld.
